After putting out a debut record and getting a US tour under their belt, Last Import is back with a brand new single "Hollywood Forever," just in time to embark on a new tour. At the beginning of "Hollywood Forever," it seems the band is starting to feel the effects of their newfound fame. The single alludes to the dream turning into a nightmare, begging vocalist Emily Bjork to ask, "Are gonna make it out alive?" However, like most of Last Import's back catalog, there's a swagger and determination mixed in to let you know that they've got this. Add in some western-tinged surf guitar, a driving rhythm section from drummer Jane Halldorson and bassist Grace Baldwin, a few easily shoutable "Hey, Hey's," and you've another absolute ripper from the band. Local surf-punk trio  Last Import  has had a banner 2019. They released a  fiery debut album , embarked on their first tour of the US, and shared a stage with fellow surf-punk titans Wavves in Chicago. I think it's safe to say that Last Import is close to becoming a household name here in the Great White North. To show off their exploits, Last Import shared a music video for two songs off their debut. Emily Bjork, Grace Baldwin, and Jane Halldorson invite you along with them in this video with a series of vlog-like clips as they travel to and from the east coast for the brooding "Lunar Rhapsody." The video then switches over from vlog to performance video as the trio performs the explosive "(Fast Times At) Space Mountain." From the first notes of Last Import's self-titled debut full-length, there is a feeling that something different is going on here. The formless and free-flowing nature of "Lunar Rhapsody" acts almost as a palate cleanser for what you, the listener, are going to experience over the next 30 or so minutes. The band's debut EP Songs For Adam was released a year and a day prior to Last Import . Since then, Last Import has been riding a wave of increasing popularity. They received play on radio stations like the Current and Go96, and they've opened for Bastille and Lany at the Palace Theater. Last Import  expands on the ideas explored on their debut EP. Finding Minnesota music that is both underground and palatable seems to be more difficult than it should be. Thankfully, when I found myself at the  Amsterdam Bar and Hall watching a Battle of The Bands hosted by Go Radio , Last Import was just launching into their set. The surf punk/indie rock trio was my personal favorite of the bands that played that night, so when I listened to their debut EP, Songs For Adam, I was happy to hear it how similar it is to the band's live show. Last Import works hard to mix sweet with angsty on Songs For Adam . This sound sits front and center during the song "Money." It opens with a typical surf rock guitar riff and drum beat that builds into a rowdy tune punctuated by the final line of the chorus - "Whatcha gonna do without the money, honey?"
