Minnesota Legend Grant Hart Dead At 56

Minnesota native Grant Hart lost his battle with cancer Wednesday night. Hart was an important figure not only in the Minnesota scene but in music scenes across the country. Grant Hart rose to fame in the 1980s where he played drums in the hardcore punk turned alt rock band Hüsker Dü. The band formed in 1979 when singer and guitarist Bob Mould wandered into Cheapo Records by Macalester college. Mould heard punk music being blasted from a PA at the door and wandered in. Mould said that he ended up hanging out with Hart because he was the only person in the store. The two struck up a friendship and decided to form a band. With Mould on guitar and Hart on drums, they enlisted the help of bassist Greg Norton to form Hüsker Dü. The band bitterly spilt up in 1988; however, with the announcement  of a boxset featureing the bands early material, hopes were high that the band would be getting back together.
