Loneliest Ways to Host House Venue Breaking Experience

House shows are one of the best blank canvasses that an underground artist can play with. They don't have to follow the typical conventions of a typical establishment venue, so shows are only limited by what the host can imagine and physically pull off.

Well, this Friday, the St. Paul-based punk quartet Loneliest Ways is planning on pushing the boundaries of what one can do with their upcoming self-described "house show breaking experience" - Loneliest Ways Presents Glitter Cannons.

"You think of house shows as being very laid back, or a social gathering where a band plays," Loneliest Ways bassist Dillon LaFolette-James told Ear Coffee. "We are putting more theatrics into it with costumes, smoke machines, and video presentations."

All of this pomp and circumstance comes as the band changes direction from punk to a something more psychedelic, a direction that both vocalist and guitarist Maddie Knorr and Dillon decided to go in the spring.

To usher in this new era, the band enlisted the help of fellow LGBTQ+ acts Bob Ross Mob Boss, Meese, and Getting By, all handpicked for the bill.

"We definitely spent time looking into all the queer bands in our area, so we did decline a couple of bands that didn't fit that bill. We wanted a strictly LGBT bill for this," said Dillon.

To accompany the music, several visual artists will be setting up and doing everything from photography to sculptures.

The show also happens to be Meese's final performance as a band. In early October, the band announced they were breaking up due to unforeseen circumstances.

Loneliest Ways Presents Glitter Cannons will be held at the venue Wavemania and will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 18. Anyone interested in attending can get the address for Wavemania by sending the band a message on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook.

There is a suggested donation of $5 to enter, but you can get in for free if you wear some sort of leather clothing (I was assured by Maddie that Doc Martens count).

The band hopes the gig can be a free and open event for attendees to express themselves.

"We just want it to be a mind-melting experience for anyone that either seen us live before or not seen us live before and it's going to totally free space for anyone to go buck wild," said Dillon.
