Father John Misty at Surly Fest 2017 |
Third Man Records is one of the few analog oases in the desert of digital recording. Their Nashville location contains a venue called The Blue Room. The Blue Room is the only live venue in the world that allows artists to cut live performances directly to acetate. The same way they did it at the beginning of music recording.
Father John Misty, real name Josh Tillman, recently did a set at Third Man Records Blue Room as part of their blue label series. In promotion for the record, Father John Misty has been releasing videos from his solo set.
Even seasoned entertainers are not exempt the stress that comes from cutting a song live without being able to edit it after the fact. In the video above, Tillman mixes up his song "Ballad Of The Dying" from his 2017 release Pure Comedy with 2015s "I Love You, Honeybear." The cynical bearded folk man was able to play off his mistake in typical Father John Misty fashion. Tillman said, "This isn't Pro Tools asshole."
Watch the song "Cheateau Lobby #4 (in C for Two Virgins)" from his Blue Room session.
I love how his music blends storytelling with unique melodies. It must have been an incredible experience to see him live in such an iconic venue. Thanks for sharing this!
