Watch The Documentary Behind Titus Andronicus' New Album

Leading up to the release of their fifth album A Productive Cough, Titus Andronicus put out a film documenting the recording of the new album. Director Ray Concepcion focused on the newer direction frontman Patrick Stickles wanted to take the band. The lead single for A Productive Cough , "Number One (In New York)," featured a mellower, piano driven sound that is more reminiscent of 1970s rock tunes. In a scene from the documentary, Stickles says, "It isn't about the screaming. It's about what you're screaming." He wants to put a method behind the madness of Titus Andronicus' music. The band is looking to hone the confrontational nature of their music to a fine point. Concepcion uses Stickles dialog in a way that connects the live performances, conversations, and pot smoking into one cohesive storyline. Titus Andronicus Release New Single, Announce New Album

Titus Andronicus are back with a new single "Number One (In New York)" from their upcoming album A Productive Cough set to be released on March 2nd. "Number One (In New York)" starts out with a gentile, repeating piano motif and a smooth vocal from frontman Patrick Stickles. As the track progresses the instrumentation grows. Layers of vocals, drums, percussion, saxophone, bass and guitars are added to the track. It builds to a crescendo, without exploding, and then fades away leaving the listener in a soup of instruments noodling around. The music video for "Number One (In New York)" features shots of the band playing the song in studio. It starts off the band setting up, an engineer tuning a piano and a producer twisting nobs on pieces of studio gear. Then the video cuts to shots of the band playing their different parts.
