The Florists - "Hold It Together" | Sunday Singles

Photo courtesy of The Florists I don't think that it's an overstatement to say that  The Florists  make some of the most interesting music in the local scene. The trio of Jo Kellen, Jared Hemming, and Luke Michaels released their sound collage of debut record, Prayer Starter  in March of last year. Now, the band is ramping to release its follow up full-length Hold It Together in just under a week. While I don't think The Florists had any sort of knowledge of what the world would look like when they released the self-titled single, it's hard to deny the eeriness of putting out the song "Hold It Together" amid a pandemic. The single is primarily rooted around the chanted line "Hold it together / It's gonna be alright." Damn, do they get the most out of those seven words. The track slowly devolves from a simple drum beat and synth bass line to a surrealist look at what noise music can add - I'm pretty sure there's a slide whistle b...

Local Music Round-Up | The Florists & Fragile Canyons

The Florists - Prayer Starter Prayer Starter , the debut full-length from Minneapolis trio the Florists, is a Jackson Pollock painting. Tracks overflow with surrealist, theatrical glee, then immediately nosedive into chaotic noise. There's an honest-to-God five-minute post-punk experimental rap meltdown ("Churches"), and it slaps . Absurd, queer, hilarious lyrics flow in and out of the listener's consciousness like the math from that one scene in  The Hangover . There's a song about indie rock , and yes, it was one of the singles. It also has one of the best bass lines I've heard in a punk song in a while. They sample the 1975 and what sounds like the Roblox "oof." The Florists are loud. They're unapologetic. And they're one of the most unquestionably creative and independent bands in the Cities. Prayer Starter is out now. Listen below. Prayer Starter by the Florists Fragile Canyons - Slow Dancing Beyond Silverdome EP ...

The Florists - "Bury Your Heart" Video

Noise pop trio the Florists have been gearing up for the release of their debut full-length record Prayer Starter with a series of four highly stylized music videos. Today, we were lucky enough to receive the most abstract of the four releases with a video for the track "Bury Your Heart." The video matches the angular nature of this song. It grows steadily more manic and surreal along with the soundscape of the song. This video along with the other two slate  Prayer Starter to be a dynamic debut for the band.   Prayer Starter  is a follow up to the band's 2017 EP No Costume . The record will be released on March 1. You can watch the video for " Bury Your Heart" that was filmed by  Tessa Loeffler below .
