Titus Andronicus are back with a new single "Number One (In New York)" from their upcoming album A Productive Cough set to be released on March 2nd. "Number One (In New York)" starts out with a gentile, repeating piano motif and a smooth vocal from frontman Patrick Stickles. As the track progresses the instrumentation grows. Layers of vocals, drums, percussion, saxophone, bass and guitars are added to the track. It builds to a crescendo, without exploding, and then fades away leaving the listener in a soup of instruments noodling around.
The music video for "Number One (In New York)" features shots of the band playing the song in studio. It starts off the band setting up, an engineer tuning a piano and a producer twisting nobs on pieces of studio gear. Then the video cuts to shots of the band playing their different parts.
Along with the new song and album announcement, Titus Andronicus was in the news over comments made by David Crosby. Crosby was asked over twitter by City Pages web editor Jay Boller what he thought of the band. The Crosby, Stills, and Nash guitarist/vocalist responded to Boller's tweet.
Crosby's tweet prompted a response from the band. Titus Andronicus tweeted,Not my kind of thing ...I prefer music https://t.co/aKjV68Xfcb— David Crosby (@thedavidcrosby) January 3, 2018
There was a back and forth between David Crosby and fans of Titus Andronicus until Crosby finally relented and tweeted.Maybe David Crosby is right and Titus Andronicus should just give up...— Titus Andronicus (@TitusAndronicus) January 4, 2018
