Watch The Documentary Behind Titus Andronicus' New Album

Leading up to the release of their fifth album A Productive Cough, Titus Andronicus put out a film documenting the recording of the new album. Director Ray Concepcion focused on the newer direction frontman Patrick Stickles wanted to take the band. The lead single for A Productive Cough, "Number One (In New York)," featured a mellower, piano driven sound that is more reminiscent of 1970s rock tunes. In a scene from the documentary, Stickles says, "It isn't about the screaming. It's about what you're screaming." He wants to put a method behind the madness of Titus Andronicus' music. The band is looking to hone the confrontational nature of their music to a fine point. Concepcion uses Stickles dialog in a way that connects the live performances, conversations, and pot smoking into one cohesive storyline. If this documentary was your introduction to the Titus Andronicus frontman, one would think all he does in smoke pot and quote Nietzsche's philosophy. Which he may do, but it seems to work for him.

A Productive Cough will be released March 2nd via Merge Records. The documentary is free and you can watch it below.
