Demos are often a snapshot into the creative process of an artist. The raw, unpolished nature gives the listener a different look at the music they love so much.
Sufjan Stevens shared his demo for the Carrie & Lowell track "John My Beloved." The track is part of a new mixed tape titled The Greatest Mix Tape - Outtakes, Remixes, & Demos from Carrie & Lowell. The mix tape features the extra material from Sufjan Stevens' critically acclaimed 2015 release Carrie & Lowell.
The demo was recorded on Stevens' iPhone with just his voice and an acoustic guitar. While the demo does not hold a candle to the produced product found on the record, the demo version of "John My Beloved" has its own magic to it. The listener gets the feeling that they are sitting on the couch in the corner while Stevens puts the finishing touches on his song.
The Greatest Mix Tape - Outtakes, Remixes, & Demos from Carrie & Lowell is out on Nov. 24 via Asthmatic Kitty.
