New Music Friday 11/10/17

If I was a better person, this would be called New Music Saturday. However, no one reads this column so I can do whatever I want.

reputation - Taylor Swift

It's here, it's huge, it's kind of a mess! No matter what, this album is a cultural moment that will generate too many thinkpieces. The album is currently unavailable on any streaming services, but if you really want to hear it, buy it on iTunes.

Phases - Angel Olsen

The North Carolina songwriter, guitarist, and ridiculously talented singer releases a B-sides collection. Includes various songs from the past few years of her career, including quite a few previously unreleased tracks. Neat! Olsen's latest album was the excellent MY WOMAN.

Kid Kruschev - Sleigh Bells

NYC noise-poppers give listeners a treat (hah!) with this mini-LP. Citing a desire to release "shorter records at a more consistent rate," this may mark a new phase for the band where we get new records every six months. Follows 2016's Jessica Rabbit.

Vante - Curls

Debut EP from Christopher Owens' (of Girls fame) new band. At only 13 minutes, it's a quick and easy listen. Comes two years after Chrissybaby Forever, Owens' latest solo album.

Interiors - Quicksand

Iconic post-hardcore outfit release their third album and first in 22 years. This is the first new music from Quicksand after their reunion in 2012.

What If Nothing - Walk the Moon

Indie pop band responsible for "Shut Up and Dance" drop their fourth studio album. Citing Talking Heads and Bowie as influences, this can only be a step back in the right direction.

Stranger - Yung Lean

Swedish rapper and meme tries to make people take him seriously for the fifth time. Produced entirely by crew mate Yung Gud.

Before I Wake - Kamaiyah

Oakland rapper and singer surprise-releases a new mixtape. According to a post on Instagram, it appears that her intended second full-length project is facing delays due to sample clearance. This tape comes as a gift to the fans.

Out of Range - Gun Outfit

Olympia rock band's fifth album. Album notes claim that the record "builds a world in which Brueghel the Elder, St. Augustine, and the ancient goddess Cybele ride with John Ford, Samuel Beckett, and Wallace Stevens..."

Arpo - Call Super

Joe Seaton releases his second album under the Call Super moniker. Out on Houndstooth Records.

Les Fleurs Du Mal - Rabit

Houston producer Eric Burton's second LP. The title means "The Flower of Evil" in French and shares a title with a volume of poetry by Baudelaire.

Laugh Now, Fly Later - Wiz Khalifa

Pittsburgh rapper's third mixtape of 2017. Allegedly preceding his anticipated sixth album, Rolling Papers 2. Features Casey Veggies.

The Program - Cam'ron

Legendary Harlem rapper drops a new tape. Unfortunately, it does not include his Vanessa Carlton-sampling "10,000 Miles."

Themes for a New Earth - Teen Daze

British Columbia-based producer and singer releases a companion LP to February's Themes for Dying Earth. The nine instrumentals are "embedded with a certain optimism."

Party Naked Forever - Bethlehem Steel

Brooklyn indie rock trio release their wonderfully-titled debut album. Follows a pair of EPs released in 2013 and 2015, respectively.
