Listen To Anna Marie Carey's Interview On The Ear Coffee Podcast

For singer-songwriter Anna Marie Carey, music has been a part of her life since the beginning. Carey had always written as a way to express herself, and the access that she had to recording studios through her dad didn’t hurt her ability to create. However, it wasn’t until the end of college that she took music seriously again. Carey graduated from the University of Northwestern - St. Paul with a degree in film. It was this draw to visuals that influenced her 2015 release Pulse Of My Heart. Carey locked herself in a room while a projector played scenes from films that reflected the themes she drew from to write the album.

Today, Anna Marie Carey works as the worship director for Calvary Church in Minnesota. At first, she vowed never to write worship music; however, after a lot tries and support from her friends and family, Carey started putting together what will become the first release from her worship band Astronauts. During the process, she really struggled writing worship music that is both artistic and impactful. "With worship music, there is this extra set of pressures. You are writing on behalf of people who are dealing with a lot of tough things in faith. [People] who are striving for clarity in their life" said Carey. These songs have taken on a new life as the album comes together. Carey says that they don't sound like they were written by her but by someone else.

Anna Marie Carey sat down with Ear Coffee's local music correspondent Joe Keyport to discuss everything mention above and so much more. You can listen to the entire interview below.
