After being fans of each others music for a while and occasionally playing shows together (Baker and Bridgers together at Winnipeg Folk Fest and Eaux Claires; Dacus and Baker both opened for Courtney Barnett on her stop in Minneapolis), the three came together to record. Originally planning on releasing a 7" for their upcoming tour, they ended up with a six song EP. Each artist brought one full song and an incomplete demo to their sessions and finished the tracks collaboratively. Elizabeth Goodfellow (who released her own album in February) played drums on the EP.
"Stay Down" is a passionate and propulsive track with Baker on lead vocals. Bridgers takes point on "Me & My Dog," a love song that would have fit perfectly on her recent record. "Bite the Hand" features Dacus on lead; Bridgers and Baker echo the song's main sentiment - "I can't love you like you want me to" - in gorgeous harmony. Listen to all three songs and see the EP tracklist below.
Fortunately, boygenius is also going on tour! Dacus will be opening for Bridgers and Baker, who will each play their own solo set, with the hopeful (and probable) chance of some boygenius songs sneaking into the setlists. Tour kicks off in November, check out dates below.
Last year, Lucy Dacus released her sophomore album, Historian. In 2017, Baker's Turn Out The Lights and Bridger's debut Stranger in the Alps were both released.
